Discovery of Ballot Error
The Cheboygan County Clerk is making voters aware of an error in the heading of the Proposed Ambulance Millage request on the November 5, 2024 ballot. “Despite multiple rounds of proofreading, the heading contains an error, and no one caught it until now,” said Cheboygan County Clerk Karen L. Brewster. The error involves the word of “Township” which should state “County” causing the heading to note a different government entity rather than what is stated on the ballot question itself. She apologized to voters for the confusion and indicated that any Cheboygan County voter that has already turned in their absentee ballot and wishes to change their vote can do so at their Township/City Clerk’s Office by submitting a written request until 5:00 P.M. Friday, October 25, 2024.
CHEBOYGAN COUNTY
Proposal for Ambulance Millage
This proposal will permit the Township COUNTY to levy up to .75 mills for the purpose of providing funds to support ambulance services within the county.
Shall the tax limitation imposed under Article IX, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution on the amount of ad valorem taxes which may be levied by the County of Cheboygan, State of Michigan, against taxable property in the County be increased by up to .75 mills ($.75 per $1,000 of taxable value) for a period of four (4) years, 2024 through 2027, inclusive, for the purpose of providing funds to support ambulance services within the county, and shall the Cheboygan County Board of Commissioners be authorized to levy such millage for this purpose? If approved and levied in its entirety, this millage would raise an estimated $1,420,339 for Cheboygan County in 2024.
